How to Track Job Applications

Stay organized from applied to hired

The average job seeker applies to 100-200 jobs during their search. Without a system, it's easy to lose track of where you applied, what stage you're in, and when to follow up. Our built-in Job Tracker keeps everything in one place.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open the Job Tracker

From the VantageCV dashboard, click 'Job Tracker' in the sidebar. You need a free account to save applications — guest mode doesn't save data between sessions.

2

Add your first application

Click 'Add Application' and fill in the company name, job title, and job URL. You can also add the location and salary range. The source field tracks where you found the listing.

Tip: If you're using the Browser Extension, you can save jobs directly from LinkedIn, Indeed, or Glassdoor with one click.

3

Set the application status

Choose from: Saved, Applied, Phone Screen, Interview, Offer, Accepted, or Rejected. You can update the status anytime as you move through the process.

4

Add notes to each application

Click on any application to add notes. Track things like who you talked to, what they said, interview dates, and follow-up reminders. Notes are timestamped so you can see your history.

5

Filter and sort your applications

Use the status filter to see only applications in a specific stage. Sort by date, company, or status. This helps you focus on active applications and plan follow-ups.

6

Follow up on stale applications

Applications that haven't been updated in 7+ days appear as needing attention. Set yourself reminders to follow up — following up within 5-7 days of applying increases your response rate by 40%.

Pro Tips

  • Add jobs to the tracker even before you apply — use the 'Saved' status as a shortlist.
  • Include the recruiter or hiring manager's name in your notes when you find it.
  • After every interview, immediately add notes about what was discussed while it's fresh.
  • Track rejection reasons to identify patterns and improve future applications.
  • Use the Browser Extension to save jobs with one click while browsing job boards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many applications can I track?

There is no limit to the number of applications you can track. Whether you have 10 or 500 active applications, the tracker handles it all.

Can I export my application data?

Currently, all your application data is stored in your VantageCV account and accessible anytime you log in. Export features are on the roadmap.

Does the tracker sync with the Browser Extension?

Yes. When you save a job using the VantageCV Browser Extension on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, or ZipRecruiter, it automatically appears in your Job Tracker with the company, title, URL, and location pre-filled.

What happens if I don't have an account?

You need a free VantageCV account to use the Job Tracker. Guest mode allows you to explore the feature, but data isn't saved between sessions. Creating an account takes about 10 seconds.
